Tested the initial design of the trans-tibial prosthetic socket this week. The design failed very quickly in the expected areas, stress concentrations in the bottom of the unit, and at the bottom of the shank contour. Strength of 3D printed parts in the printer Z direction remains poor and should be considered a major design constraint.
Redesign with increase the area of the shank contour, modify the unit to be used without footwear (to reduce mass and maximum width). Will likely print version 2 on the Markerbot using PLA for reduced material cost and increased x-direction build area.
