Dr. Muller is actively engaged in involving high school students in geoscience research. From 2009 through 2011, she co-ran the Ocean and Climate Change Institute Summer Internship at WHOI with Senior Scientist, Dr. Delia Oppo. This one-week intensive summer course for upper level high school students covered topics relevant to present day climate-change issues. Students learned current techniques used to decipher past climate changes. In July 2012, Dr. Muller co-ran the 2012 Summer Research Opportunity for Collier County middle school students at the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Reserve (RBNERR) and the Kapnick Center in Naples . Paleotempestology was the focus topic in 2012 and students extracted cores from a number of coastal environments accessible within RBNERR. Students then undertook sedimentological and stratigraphic studies of the cores and then analyzed the results.
