If you worked that day, please take this survey
On February 13, 2016 Collier County Parks recieved the equivalent approximately $2200 of service learning hours (100 hours by 20 persons).
This was made possible with the help of the Friends of Barefoot Beach Preserve & Service-Learning students from Jen MacBeth’s Spring, 2016 FGCU University Colloquium virtual class.
A. We assisted the Friend of Barefoot Beach Preserve (FOBBP) by weeding the cactus garden, helping them maintain the butterfly garden, moving mulch, and preparing for lecture series.
B. We pulled some of the ragweed from area just North of the Boardwalk at parking lot 2. It has formed a virtual monoculture in many sunny areas of the Preserve. The runners appear to prevent the growth of grasses, the preferred food for Gopher Tortoises.
C. We broke down two brush piles. We removed a potential a fire source, and improved the visual asethetic of the project from the boardwalk.
D. We educated visitors to the Preserve about the Gopher@Barefoot project.
